Laboratory 3

Aim: To design, simulate (using XILINX) and implement a 4-bit multiplier using three 4-bit parallel adders and AND gates.

Material needed: Protoboard, Logic template, Three 7483 4-bit parallel adders, AND gates, DIP switches, a set of resistors (0.25W, 1k ohms and 0.25W, 330 ohms), LED's and wires for Protoboard.

Problem: To construct a circuit that takes two 4-bit numbers and produces their product, which is an 8-bit result.

Prelab:

  1. Design the circuit and draw its block diagram.

  2. Draw a chip level schematic diagram.

Demo:

  1. Derive inputs to the circuits using DIP switches and the outputs using LED's.

  2. Debug your circuit and demonstrate the operation.
